Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Polish Season 1, Lesson 8 - Talking About Your Age. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask someone's age and to say yours in Polish.
Body
Eric: Here's the informal way to ask 'How old are you?' in Polish.
Marzena: [Normal] Ile masz lat?
Eric: First is a word meaning 'how many'
Marzena: [Normal] ile [Slow] ile
Eric: Next is the word meaning 'you have'
Marzena: [Normal] masz [Slow] masz
Eric: Last is the word meaning 'years'
Marzena: [Normal] lat [Slow] lat
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning 'How old are you?'
Marzena: [Slow] Ile masz lat? [Normal] Ile masz lat?
Eric: Now, imagine you're speaking to a stranger. Here's the formal way to ask, 'How old are you? when speaking to a man'

Marzena: You would NEVER ask about somebody's age in Poland, especially if the person you are asking is a woman. Remember: Polish women are always 18.
