INTRODUCTION
Betsey: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Polish learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Lesson focus

Betsey: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question What's your name? In Polish this is
Joanna: Jak masz na imię?
Betsey: The first word in the question is

Joanna: (Slow, by syllable) jak
Betsey: Listen again and repeat.
Joanna: jak
{Pause}
Betsey: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Joanna: masz
Betsey: meaning you have.
Joanna: (Slow, by syllable) masz
Betsey: Now repeat.

If we use "Jak masz na imię" we are asking only about person's first name. There's also another question we can use to ask about someone's full name - Jak się nazywasz?
Betsey: Okay, now let's break it down from the beginning. The first word:
Joanna: mam
Betsey: meaning I have.
Joanna: (Slow, by syllable) mam
Betsey: Now repeat
Joanna: mam
{Pause}
Betsey: And next
Joanna: na

Betsey: Now repeat.

Betsey: Listen to the speaker say, My name is John., and then repeat.
Joanna: Mam na imię John.
{pause}
Betsey: To expand on the pattern, replace John with Michael.

Betsey: Listen to the phrase again, this time with Michael

Cześć Anirudh,

Już tłumaczyłam Ci zasadę tworzenia tego typu zdań.

Mówimy "Jestem Chińczykiem", nie "Chinem".

Tak samo, mówimy "mówić jak Chińczyk" lub "jak Japończyk".

W języku polskim nie ma słów takich jak Chinie i Japonie,

Odmianę słów przez przypadki można znaleźć w dobrym słowniku.

Please be more careful.

Kind regards,

Hanna

Chcę mówić biegle po japońsku jak Japonie (I want to speak Japanese fluently like the Japanese)

Dziękuję bardzo ?

Witaj Anirudh,

Nie znam żadnego z tych imion!
