Lesson focus

Wherever your destination may be, manners are necessary! In this respect, Poland is no different. So in our very first lesson, we'll be teaching you a simple phrase that is bound to come in handy throughout your trip in Poland. I can't stress this enough: a little bit of the language can go such a long way! |
In Polish, "Thank you" is Dziękuję. |
Dziękuję. |
Let’s break it down by syllable: Dziękuję. |
Now let's hear it one more time: Dziękuję. |
You can emphasize Dziękuję by adding bardzo, which means "very much." |
bardzo |
You could say Dziękuję bardzo, which would be the equivalent of "Thank you very much". |
Dziękuję bardzo |
Dziękuję bardzo |
Let’s break it down by syllable: Dziękuję bardzo |
Now let's hear it once again: Dziękuję bardzo |
Another useful phrase would be Dziękuję za wszystko, which means "Thank you for everything." |
Dziękuję za wszystko |
The component za means "for." |
Let’s say it one more time: za |
Wszystko means "everything." |
Let’s break it down by syllable: Wszystko |
And, wszystko |
So the whole phrase is Dziękuję za wszystko. |
Now let's hear it once again: Dziękuję za wszystko. |
Especially nowadays, a very popular phrase among friends expressing gratitude is Dzięki, which means "Thanks." |
Dzięki |
Let’s break it down: Dzięki |
Now let's hear it once again: Dzięki |
Please remember we can only use Dzięki among friends in an informal setting. |
Outro
|
Okay, to close out this lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for shouting it aloud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so powodzenia, which means “good luck” in Polish. |
"Thank you." - Dziękuję. |
Dziękuję. |
Dziękuję. |
"Thank you very much. / Thanks a lot." - Dziękuję bardzo. |
Dziękuję bardzo. |
Dziękuję bardzo. |
"Thank you for everything." - Dziękuję za wszystko. |
Dziękuję za wszystko. |
Dziękuję za wszystko. |
"Thanks. (informal)" - Dzięki. |
Dzięki. |
Dzięki. |

Hi Ann,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us!
Please note that our Quiz section is an automatic system, thus very sensitive.
If you don't use the exact words as the ones you find in the vocab section, it will mark the entry wrong, even if you miss adding the punctuation.
Our team is working on a better system. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.
Sincerely,
Ali

Cześć Ann!
Thank you for your post! You are right - "very much" looks like a perfectly correct translation. We will do our best to "teach" the system as soon as possible 😉 In the meantime, do let us know if you have any questions!
Miłego dnia :)
Pozdrowienia,

In the quizzes, the software does not recognize the student reply, "very much" as answer for "bardzo." It only recognizes "very (much)" as the correct answer. Can you explain why the student answer of "very much" is counted as an error? The answer, "very much" seems like an acceptable translation for "bardzo."
