Post Regiment

W 1986 roku powstała w Warszawie grupa punkrockowa pod nazwą Post Regiment. Chociaż w początkach istnienia zespół grał łagodniejszą muzykę, to gdy w 1987 roku rolę wokalisty przejęła Dominika „Nika” Domczyk, muzyka przybrała postać szybkiego melodyjnego punka, który wprawiał publiczność w szaleństwo.

Oprócz Dominiki Domczyk, w zespole grali—Darek „Tolek” Gracki (wokal), Jarek „Smok” Smak (gitara), Maksymilian „Max” Gralewicz (perkusja), Rafał „Rolf” Biskup (gitara basowa) i Janek Cybulski (gitara).

Potem zespół wydał jeszcze dwie płyty—„Tragiedia wg Post Regiment” (1999) i „Death Before Metal” (2007).

Post Regiment

In 1986 in the city of Warsaw, the punk rock band known as Post Regiment officially came together. Although at the beginning, the band had more of a regular sound, in 1987, when Dominika "Nika" Domczyk took over as the group's lead vocalist, he turned it into a fast-paced yet melodic punk band that could get audiences into a frenzy with its fast-paced, melodic beats in no time at all.

Throughout the years, a total of five different members played in the band besides Domczyk, including Darek "Tolek" Gracki on vocals, Jarek "Smok" Smak on guitar, Maksymilian "Max" Gralewicz on drums, Rafal "Rolf" Biskup on bass guitar, and Janek Cybulski on guitar. In 1988, Post Regiment released its first demo tape, titled "Slodka 16-tka." Even though it did get some notice, the band was not able to release its first self-titled studio album until 1992.

From that point on, Post Regiment did find some success, especially when they changed up their style again in 1995 with the release of their second studio album, "Czarzly," which had more of a crust punk sound and was even more fast paced. The band released two more albums after that, "Tragiedia wg Post Regiment" in 1999 and 2007's "Death Before Metal," which was filled with songs from 1988 to 1990. In 2001, Post Regiment officially disbanded, yet it occasionally comes together for jam sessions, and its members have even played in local establishments in Poland.

Tworzył zarówno filmy dokumentalne („Robotnicy ’71—nic o nas bez nas”, „Życiorys”, „Dworzec”) jak i pełnometrażowe filmy fabularne („Blizna”, „Personel”, „Przypadek”, „Bez końca”, „Krótki film o zabijaniu”, „Trzy kolory”, „Dekalog”, „Amator”). Nosił on tytuł „Czerwony”. Kieślowski za swoja pracę odebrał całe mnóstwo nagród. W szczególności za „Trzy kolory” i „Krótki film o zabijaniu”.

Krzysztof Kieślowski zmarł 13 marca 1996 roku. W Alei Gwiazd w Kielcach ustawiono popiersie upamiętniające jego zasługi.

Krzysztof Kieslowski

Krzysztof Kieslowski was born on June 27, 1941, in Warsaw and spent his childhood in myriad small towns, having to move every time his father needed to move to treat his tuberculosis. During his teen and adult years, he was quite unsure as to what to do with his life, so he tried out the College for Theater Technicians in Warsaw. After attending for a little while, he realized he enjoyed theater, so he decided to turn it into a career and became a theater director.

However, he then realized that he actually liked film better and attended the Lodz Film School. Upon graduation, he delved into the world of film and proceeded to become one of the most influential screenwriters and film directors in the country. Some of the work that he did throughout his career consisted of documentaries like "Worker’s 71," "Curriculum Vitae," and "Station" along with full-length feature films such as "The Scar," "Personnel," "Blind Chance," "No End," "The Golden Lion," "Three Colors," "The Decalogue," and "Camera Buff." His last full-length feature release came in the year 1994 at the Cannes Film Festival and was called "Red." He received a plethora of awards for his work, especially "Three Colors" and "The Golden Lion," for which he earned the Best Film award at the Venice Film Festival.

On March 13, 1996, Kieslowski passed away, and there is a bust recognizing his accomplishments on display at the Celebrity Alley in Kielce, Poland.

Małopolska

Kraków jest stolicą Małopolski, regionu położonego w południowo-wschodniej, granicznej części kraju. Południową granicę Małopolski stanowią góry Karpaty, a północną – rzeki: Pilica i Liwiec.

----Formal English----

Lesser Poland

The city of Krakow is the capital of Lesser Poland, which lies in the southeastern corner of Poland. Lesser Poland's southern boundary is at the Carpathian Mountains, and the northern boundary falls along the Pilica and Liwiec Rivers. Krakow was the capital of Poland from the middle of the eleventh century until almost the end of the sixteenth century. When Warsaw became the capital city of the country, Lesser Poland began to lose some of its importance, although the historical significance of the region was still there.

The region wasn't always controlled by Poland. The Vistula River, which runs down the middle of it, was the dividing line of the region, and Austria took control of half of Lesser Poland after the Partitions of Poland, which resulted in the country being divided up by various countries in the eighteenth century. Some of the northern cities in Lesser Poland no longer seem to be part of the region because of the Austrian separation. They now have more of their own identity, which is quite different from the rest of Lesser Poland.

In addition to the Vistula River, Lesser Poland also includes the Sqietokrzyskie Mountains and many other geographical features, like the Sandomierz Basin. Most of the region is very hilly, and Mount Rysy, which is the highest mountain in Poland, lies within the Lesser Poland region. There are also several other very tall mountains in the region, as well as a number of lakes and rivers, including the Warta River.

Fryderyk Chopin

Jedno z najsławniejszych dzieł Chopina to „Marsz Pogrzebowy” – poruszająca kompozycja, wyrażająca utratę, żal i smutek.

Dodatkowo wiele dokonał w dziedzinach m.in. walca, nokturnu, poloneza, improwizacji i scherza.

Known as a child prodigy, Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer born in the year 1810. The date of his actual birth is not known and has been listed as either February 22nd or March 1st. He died on October 17th, 1849, at the young age of 39.

He studied music his entire life, and one of his trademarks is the work that he did at the piano, masterful pieces of the romantic variety that nowadays can be typically heard being played by musicians at weddings, anniversary celebrations, and other situations where romance is involved, such as fancy restaurants. Unlike most composers', almost all of Chopin’s works were designed to be played by a solo pianist, as exemplified by the Minute Waltz and various Preludes and Etudes. One of his most notable works is the Funeral March, a moving composition that represents loss, grief, and sorrow.

Along with his many compositions, Chopin also contributed to the musical world in other ways, since he was the person who developed the musical concept called the instrumental ballade. Additionally, he made great strides in the areas of the walk, nocturne, polonaise, impromptu, and scherzo musical techniques, to name a few.

When it comes down to it, music as we know it today would not be the same without the contributions of Chopin. In all, he composed close to 200 original pieces and is a musical innovator who will never be forgotten.

Artur Rubinstein

Arthur Rubinstein

Arthur Rubinstein was born on January 28, 1887 in Lodz, Poland, to a family of Polish and Jewish decent. He was the baby of the family, as there were seven siblings before him, and the family was wealthy, since his father owned a large factory.

At an early age, he showed that he had the skills to play the piano, and he exhibited perfect pitch. Recognized as a child prodigy by Joseph Joachim, he played the instrument on a regular basis and went to school in Warsaw to study it. He then moved to Berlin to continue his studies and made his professional debut at thirteen, joining the Berlin Philharmonic on stage. From that point on, he shadowed other musicians and honed his skills under their direction, and at the age of seventeen he made his way to Paris to pursue as many playing opportunities as he could.

The move to Paris paid off, as Rubenstein was able to launch his career, garnering more and more attention as the years went on. He became so popular and renowned that he eventually made his way to the United States and played at Carnegie Hall. Some of the other locations where he showcased his piano skills include Austria, Russia, Italy, and England. After a successful playing career, later in life Rubinstein decided that he would take on teaching, even though he was a bit hesitant at first. Some of his best students included Avi Schonfeld, Dean Kramer, and Marc Loforet.

On December 20, 1982, Rubinstein passed away; he will be remembered as one of the best classical pianists of the twentieth century.

You kneel down next to her, sneer on your face, and reply sweetly in Polish, "Honey, that is a spider, and it looks like it's protecting itself from you." Astonished, she whips her head around to face you and replies with a simple, "Oh." You point to another bug nearby and explain in Polish, "And look here, the cicadas are climbing up the tree." She stares at you in disbelief and replies in Polish, "I don't want to look at bugs any more, let's go work in the garden!" Looks like you beat her at her own game AND get some help with that unruly garden too! Adam Makowicz

Jeśli jesteś miłośnikiem klasycznej muzyki fortepianowej i jazzu, Adam Makowicz na pewno wywoła na Twojej twarzy uśmiech zadowolenia. Dlaczego?

W połowie lat 70-ych rozpoczął karierę muzyka, a w 1977 roku odbył tournee, które trwało dziesięć tygodni i zaprowadziło go do Stanów Zjednoczonych.

Adam Makowicz

If you are a lover of classical piano pieces and jazz music, then Adam Makowicz is one artist who will be sure to bring a smile to your face. Why? Because he is one talented musician who knows how to tickle the ivories.

On the eighteenth of August in the year 1940, right in the middle of World War II, Makowicz was born in Hnojnik, Poland, which is now actually located in the Czech Republic. He was raised in the country but, realizing that music was his passion, went on to study music of the classical variety at the Chopin Conservatory of Music in Krakow. Eventually, he developed a deep passion for modern jazz because its free-flowing nature allowed him to improvise at the drop of a hat.

The middle of the 1970s was when Makowicz really took off as an artist; in 1977, a ten-week concert tour brought him to the United States. His first solo album, "Adam," came out at the end of the 1970s. After relocating to New York at that time, he then moved to Toronto where he continued to both perform and record. Throughout his career, he performed as a solo artist and also made multiple concert appearances, most notably his appearance with the National Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.

An avid player of Chopin's work, Makowicz is an artist who always has a smile on his face, and one whom you want to see perform if you have the opportunity to do so.

„Ogniem i mieczem"

Film wyreżyserował Jerzy Hoffman, a główne role odtwarzają—Izabella Scorupco, Michał Żebrowski i Aleksander Domagarow.

----Formal English----

"With Fire and Sword"

The film "With Fire and Sword" is based on the Polish novel of the same name by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Jerzy Hoffman directed it, and it stars Izabella Scorupco, Michal Zebrowski, and Aleksandr Domogarov. The film takes place during the Khmelnytsky Uprising in the Ukraine during the seventeenth century.

The film is largely historical in nature and thoroughly mixes real people who lived during the time with fictional characters created in Sienkiewicz's book. A love triangle unfolds among a woman, a Polish knight, and a Cossack commander in the Ukrainian army. One of the biggest problems critics have with the movie was that it does have some historical inaccuracies. For example, the first battle between the Cossacks and the Poles actually lasted almost three weeks, although the movie suggests that it was over very quickly.

Reviewers of the film say that it can be better understood if one has some knowledge of events in Poland during the seventeenth century. However, the story of the Khmelnytsky Uprising provides a very rich backdrop that's full of action for a love story that unfolds during this time period.

The two male leads in this movie are on opposite sides of the war, and yet they both manage to fall in love with the same woman. The female lead grew up with the Cossacks, and she meets the knight while he is on a mission in her area. The intricate plot provides a way to learn about history while still falling under the thrall of a great story.

Najstarsze i największe z drzew mają swoje imiona i własne ścieżki turystyczne.

Meet European Bison from Białowieża Forest

Many tourists come to Poland not only to admire the relics of medieval Europe, but before anything else, to enjoy the nature. In Poland, there are still a lot of places where people and wild nature coexist in peace. One of the most noble, living monuments of such coexistence is Białowieża Forest.

In ancient times, almost the whole area of Poland was covered with thick, dangerous forests. However, compared to the original size, only small fragments of the ancient woodlands have survived until today, and they are protected as nature preserves. Białowieża Forest is a remnant of the last primeval forests of the European Plain, and it spreads across an area of more than 1500 square meters, out of which 620 square meters are within Polish borders.

One of the best known residents of the woodland is the European bison, a cousin of the American buffalo. The European bison also lives in other places in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine. It is, however, a very rare species that seldom comes out of the thick forest. Therefore, Białowieża Forest, in which more than six hundred head live, is an ideal place to meet this noble animal. Bison are the real rulers of the woodland in their own opinion, and they usually treat humans with ostentatious indifference, but it by no means indicates that they would let you come close. The best way to take a closer look at Their Highnesses would be a trip to the Exhibitory Bison Reservation in Białowieża Forest.

To those not impressed by big animals, the woodland is offering something even bigger—the trees. In woodlands as old as Białowieża Forest, one stumbles upon trees older than their grand-grandparents almost every step. The oldest and the biggest of the trees have their own names and tourist paths. There are many different stories attached to them, like the one about Jagiello\'s oak, under which one of the Polish kings was supposed to be sitting and meditating. The truth is the scientists have already proven that Jagiello\'s oak, before it was knocked down by a storm, was no more than 450 years old,　and the king Jagiello, who ruled over Poland and Lithuania in the fourteenth century, couldn\'t have even stepped over it. But it doesn\'t bother the tourists or the locals, and the great, silent trees don\'t seem to mind such little stories. Besides, who knows, maybe somewhere in the deep forest a real Jagiello\'s oak is still growing, undiscovered.

Poznań – Business with Little Goats

Poznań is the fifth city with regard to size, and at the same time, one of the oldest cities in Poland. It is the capital city of the Greater Poland region. During the Middle Ages, it also served as a capital city of the then-young Polish country. In Poznań, it\'s worthwhile to see the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul on Ostrów Tumski island, the oldest Polish cathedral, in which the first historic rulers of Poland are buried. On the other side, the youngest European castle, the Imperial Castle, is also located in Poznań, although it may mislead you with its neo-romanesque architecture style. In fact, it was built at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Poznań tempts the tourists with its long musical traditions as well, including performances of numerous choirs active in this city (the best known in Poland is Poznańskie Słowiki boys\' choir), violin and lute contests, concerts of Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra, and an opera. Fans of light music will surely find something for themselves too in bigger and smaller clubs, so the only thing left to do is watch out not to miss the most interesting posters.

Although Poznań is an old, very beautiful city, Polish people from other parts of the country associate it with modern culture and…with business rather than history. Sometimes it is said a bit jokingly about Poznań residents that they are the biggest misers in Poland, but the truth is, Poznań is simply a prospering city, residents of which apparently know how to use money. It is here that the Poznań International Fair is held, containing several dozen of yearly events of diverse themes, from lingerie fairs to exhibitions of artistic objects all the way to fairs about agricultural mechanization. Before you come to Poznań, it is a good idea to check out the fair calendar and see whether you can get a good bargain by chance on the occasion of your vacation.

At the end, we\'ll tell you about a curiosity: when the clock of Poznań\'s town hall calls midday, two little goats come out from the central tower, and for a minute, they connect and detach their horns. Where did the idea come from to put two little goats into the clock mechanism instead of a regular cuckoo? A funny legend explains that, but what is it? Ask Poznanians about it!

5 najciekawszych miejsc w Warszawie

Najwieksze atrakcje turystyczne w Warszawie to m.in. Stare Miasto, Trakt Królewski, Łazienki Królewskie, zabytkowy cmentarz – Powązki oraz Palac Kultury I Nauki.

Stare Miasto to Rynek z otaczającymi go charakterystycznymi kamieniczkami i centralnie umiejscowiona fontanna z Syrenką.

Ta charakterystyczna budowla stanowi pomnik minionej epoki komunizmu.

Tuż obok Dworca Centralnego i Pałacu Kultury mniej więcej trzy lata temu otwarto centrum biurowo - handlowe Złote Tarasy. Ogromny, szklany kompleks stał sią ogrmną atrakcją, która przyciąga i miejscowych i turystów.

Top Five Sightseeing Places in Warsaw

Warsaw is a city located in the center of Poland, and for the past four hundred years, it has been the capital as well as an important scientific, cultural, political, and economic hub.

The biggest tourist attractions in Warsaw are, among others, the Old City; the Royal Tract; the Royal Bathrooms; the Fryderyk Chopin statue; the historic cemetery, Powązki; and the Palace of Culture and Science.

The Old Town includes a central marketplace surrounded by many distinctive tenement houses and a centrally located mermaid fountain. The Old Town also includes Castle Square, with the Royal Castle and King Sigmund Column. The old fortification walls and Barbakan (defense building) are also must-see attractions. The tragic events of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 are commemorated by the statue of a Young Upriser and numerous plaques of remembrance.

The most popular walking and relaxing place for Warsaw citizens and tourists is the Royal Bathrooms. Inside the park, there are many valuable monuments, sculptures, and architectural treasures like Palace on the Water. The Royal Bathrooms also have a lot of greenery, ponds, and animals such as squirrels, ducks, and royal peacocks. The most famous Chopin statue is also located in the Royal Bathrooms, and it serves as a symbol of the Polish nation. On Summer Sundays, Chopin piano concerts are often held at his monument.

Powązki Cemetery is the oldest, most noble, and most beautiful cemetery in Warsaw. Its history spans over two hundred years. You could say it is effectively an open-air sculpture museum. Many artists have left outstanding works in various artistic styles in the cemetery. They may be either modest simple gravestones or magnificent monuments as well as chapels and family vaults.

The Palace of Culture and Science is located in the very center of Warsaw next to the Parade Square. This distinctive building is a monument of the past Communist period. At the same time, it is one of the best known and most easily recognized structures in Warsaw and in Poland. The Palace of Culture and Science was a gift from the Soviet Union\'s people to the Polish people, and its founding father was Joseph Stalin himself. The Palace was built in 1955 within three years, and from that moment, it has been an integral part of Warsaw\'s scenery.

In Warsaw, besides historical buildings and monuments, tourists can find many modern shopping malls, cafes, and restaurants where one can enjoy traditional Polish cuisine. Right next to the Central Station and the Palace of Culture, the Golden Terraces commercial center was opened approximately three years ago. This massive glass construction has become a significant attraction for both tourists and locals.
