Lesson focus

In the previous lesson, we covered how to get a bus ticket.
So now that you have your ticket, get ready to jump on your bus and start the tour. But wait a moment. Before you get on the bus, you need to confirm whether it's going to your destination. We can accomplish this by asking Przepraszam, czy ten autobus jedzie do...? ["Excuse me, does this bus go to (destination)?"] Let's look at this phrase. We start with the word przepraszam, which you already know very well.
Then we have czy ten autobus, meaning "does this bus." This is followed by jedzie, which is the third person singular of the verb jechać ("to go by means of transportation").
Please note that it can only be used with the means of transportation that move on the ground, so not with any kinds of planes nor ships.
The last word is do ("to").
So all together, we have Przepraszam, czy ten autobus jedzie do...? ("Excuse me, does this bus go to...?")
Let's imagine now that you are in Warsaw and you have to go to Stare Miasto ("the Old Town"), the oldest district in Warsaw. What would you ask the bus driver? Przepraszam, czy ten autobus jedzie do Starego Miasta? ("Excuse me, does this bus go to the Old Town?") As you can see, in this sentence we simply added the destination we would like to go to.
Imagine that you are visiting a city for the first time and you have no idea of the distances between your favorite destinations.
You need to ask the bus driver how long the bus takes. Ile zajmuje dojazd do...? ["How much time does it take to get to (your destination)?"]
Ile means "how much."
Then we have zajmuje, which means "it takes." Zajmuje comes from the verb zajmować, which means "to take." Next we have dojazd do, which literally means "getting to." Finally, all you have to do is add the place you want to go! It's as simple as that.

Outro

Okay, to close out this lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for shouting it aloud.
You have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so powodzenia, which means “good luck” in Polish.
